Book Prize Nomination

The International Society for Public Law | ICON·S is pleased to open the call for nominations for its annual Book Prize.

In line with the Society’s mission, the prize will be awarded to an outstanding book in the field of public law, understood as a field of knowledge that transcends dichotomies between national and international as well as between administrative and constitutional law. Preference will be given to scholarship which, in dealing with the challenges of public life and governance, combines elements from all of the above with a good dose of political theory and social science.

The Book Prize will be awarded to the author(s) of a book or books published in 2023 and 2024 at the Society’s next global meeting, which will take place from July 28 to 30 in Brasilia, Brazil.

The winner(s) will be selected by the Society’s Book Prize Committee, led by the co-chairs Chien-Chih Lin and Silvia Suteu, and members Anna Dziedzic, Pablo Riberi, Patricia Popelier and Tarun Khaitan.

How to Nominate

English-language monographs on public law are eligible for nomination.

The nominated book must have been published in 2023 or 2024. The relevant criterion is the official publication year as stated in the book’s front matter. Nominated books must moreover be the first original edition.

Books already nominated in previous editions of the Society’s Book Prize and books written by members of the Society’s Executive Committee are not eligible.

The following are invited to nominate books, up to a maximum of 5 (five) each:

  • Members of the ICON·S Executive Committee
  • Members of the ICON·S Council
  • Group of at least three ICON·S members
  • Book review editors of academic journals
  • Scholarly publishers/publishing house

Authors are not eligible to nominate their own books. Furthermore, edited books and books written by members of the Society’s Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration.

The Society especially welcomes nominations of scholarly works by female- and male-identifying scholars. The Book Prize Committee is authorized to consider books that have not been nominated and that it considers particularly worthy of consideration.

The deadline for the submission of nominations is January 15, 2025.

Please note that the nominators must send (or make arrangements with the publisher to send) one hardcopy for each member of the Book Prize Committee directly to each member no later than February 15, 2025. Addresses will be provided shortly after nomination.

E-books or scans can substitute hardcopies with the approval of Co-Chairs Silvia Suteu (s.suteu@ucl.ac.uk) and Chien-Chih Lin (chienchihlin@gate.sinica.edu.tw), in particular, if providing hardcopies poses a considerable financial burden or is otherwise problematic.
