Book Prize Nomination

The International Society for Public Law | ICON·S is pleased to open the call for nominations for its annual Book Prize.

In line with the Society’s mission, the prize will be awarded to an outstanding book in the field of public law, understood as a field of knowledge that transcends dichotomies between national and international as well as between administrative and constitutional law. Preference will be given to scholarship which, in dealing with the challenges of public life and governance, combines elements from all of the above with a good dose of political theory and social science.

The Book Prize will be awarded to the author(s) of a book or books published in 2024 and 2025 at the Society’s next global meeting, which will take place in Dublin, Ireland.

The winner(s) will be selected by the Society’s Book Prize Committee, chaired by Tarun Khaitan and composed of Rabiat Akande, Cora Chan, Juliana Cesário Alvim Gomes, and Arnulf Becker Lorca.

How to Nominate

English-language monographs on public law are eligible for nomination.

The nominated book must have been published in 2024 or 2025. The relevant criterion is the official publication year as stated in the book’s front matter. Nominated books must moreover be the first original edition.

Books already nominated in previous editions of the Society’s Book Prize and books written by members of the Society’s Executive Committee are not eligible.

The following are invited to nominate books, up to a maximum of 5 (five) each:

  • Members of the ICON·S Executive Committee
  • Members of the ICON·S Council
  • Group of at least three ICON·S members
  • Book review editors of academic journals
  • Series Editor of an Academic Book Series
  • Scholarly publishers/publishing house

Authors are not eligible to nominate their own books. Furthermore, edited books and books written by members of the Society’s Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration.

The Society especially welcomes nominations of scholarly works by scholars from groups underrepresented in public law academia.

The deadline for the submission of nominations is December 15, 2025.

Please note that the nominators must send (or make arrangements with the publisher to send) one hardcopy for each member of the Book Prize Committee directly to each member no later than January 15, 2026. Addresses will be provided shortly after nomination.

E-books or scans can substitute for hard copies with the approval of the chair, Prof. Tarun Khaitan (T.Khaitan@lse.ac.uk), particularly if providing hard copies poses a considerable financial burden or is otherwise problematic.
