The newly founded French Chapter will organize its launch event on October 18 2023, at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne.
Julie Suk (Fordham Law School (New York) & Russel Sage Foundation 2023-24) will present a conference on “Abortion as a constitutional question” at 4.30 PM.
Abortion is a topical legal and constitutional issue of the 21st Century. The constitutional courts of Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador, as well as the United States, have recently handed down landmark decisions. In France, a debate on the possible constitutionalization of abortion has been opened by important parliamentary votes, while in Europe, opposing movements are emerging. Thus, while access to abortion has recently been restricted in Poland, the Irish people have reversed their constitutional ban.
The conference will be followed by a debate with the participants. Elsa Fondimare (Université Paris Nanterre) & Laurie Marguet (Université Paris Est Créteil) will serve as discussants.
The event will be followed by a cocktail reception.
