New Scholarship Honors Legacy of Frances Kleeman

We are thrilled to announce the creation of the Frances Alice Kleeman Fund, generously established by Julia Frank and Mark Graber.

The Fund pays tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of Frances Kleeman (Julia Frank’s mother), a woman whose extraordinary journey and dedication to internationalism continue to inspire. Born in New York and educated in Switzerland, Frances Kleeman dedicated her life to fostering international understanding. During World War II, she served as a translator with the American Expeditionary Force in France. Her commitment continued as she taught French and German for 30 years, led American students to France through the Experiment in International Living, and later worked with JHPIEGO to bring medical professionals from Africa and South America to the U.S.

This scholarship celebrates Frances’s dedication to global engagement and aims to support students who share her passion for internationalism.

We thank Julia Frank and Mark Graber for their generous contribution and look forward to supporting future scholars through this tribute to Frances Kleeman’s remarkable life.

More details on the operationalization of this gift will be provided later in the calendar year.
